Proud sponsors of Canine Connection in 2022
Based on 160 acres of rolling green farmlands where 70 of their own Black Angus cattle roam, Beerfarm is both a brewery and working farm located in Metricup, WA. Their brewery is a converted dairy farm, producing mouth-watering beer which is served alongside seasonal eats and traditional BBQ, curated by Burnt Ends at Beerfarm.
Working with both the land and environment to cultivate good times and great tasting beers for every occasion, the land is part of who they are and the traditions of hard work and fresh produce is the focus for the venue. United in the belief in doing things a little differently, they’re independently owned and operated, striving towards being sustainable and accountable in everything that they do.
This is captured in their farm to plate philosophy, where their cattle spend their days grazing and tucking into spent grain leftover from the brewing process, before being utilised as beef by their on-site kitchen team.
When visiting Beerfarm, you’ll be sure to spot the resident brewery dogs roaming the grounds or napping in the sunshine while they wait for their owners to knock off from work. Infact, the Beerfarm team like to include their pooches in nearly all aspects of life; with enjoying a beer with your best mate being one of them.
“After staring into those puppy dog eyes day after day, while having a cold one after work, it wasn’t long before the idea for Bow Wow Brau was born,” said Beerfarm’s Ben Joseph.
Bow Wow Brau is bone broth, made from pork and chicken bones, slow cooked with turmeric, carrot and ginger.
“It’s great for dogs joints, guts and their general health and best of all, it means you can enjoy a cold one while your canine companion chows down their own “cold one”,” said Joseph.
Bow Wow Brau is a special release doggie beer, only available at certain times of year or when there’s a good cause for the Beerfarm team to get behind. It’s made entirely from scratch, by Beerfarm’s Ben Joseph and Andy Minness, who are both passionate dog owners themselves.
Their most recent batch of Bow Wow Brau was created inline with International Dogs Day and donated to 14 well known Perth hospitality venues, with the proceeds from each bottle sold donated to the Dogs Refuge Home in Shenton Park. It’s organisations like this one that make the early hours of cooking, bottling and cleaning up the carcass aftermath well worth the sleep deprivation.
Combining good beers with good deeds is a part of Beerfarms ethos, even when it comes to their canine companions and they’ll endeavour to bring Bow Wow Brau to more doggy lips in the future, when they have the means to do so.
